Abstract

Internalizing problems are behaviors that are directed at oneself and are excessively controlled so that they affect a person's psychological problems by withdrawing from the environment, feeling lonely, anxiety and even depression with several factors such as motivation, stress, lifestyle, and emotional instability. Adolescents can experience internalizing problems because of difficulties in managing emotional fluctuations, concentration levels, and problems in social interactions with peers. One of the lifestyles that are positively beneficial for adolescents is sleep quality. Adolescents with good sleep quality can suppress internalizing problems because factors during sleep can reduce stress. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of sleep quality on internalizing problems in adolescents. This study is a quantitative study using a simple random sampling technique to select 388 samples with age criteria of 12-15 years who live in East Java. The scales used are the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the Strength & Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). The results of this study indicate a significant positive effect of sleep quality and internalizing problems in adolescents, so the hypothesis in this study is rejected.
