Abstract
The channelling of sexual desire through masturbation with strong intensity indisputably leads to the disruption of social life and the emergence of uncontrolled fantasies. Furthermore, masturbation is regarded as contrary to religious values and norms. This will cause feelings of discomfort, shame, and guilt. Guilt and shame are the natural responses to actions that are considered 'wrong' and violate moral rules and conscience. It also allows a person to consider the behaviour that would be or has been done. This study aims to determine the effect of guilt and shame on the intensity of masturbation. This study employs a quantitative approach and uses a non-random sampling technique for the data collection process. This study involved 230 respondents aged between 18 and 40. To measure guilt and shame proneness, two instruments were used: the Guilt and Shame Proneness Scale (GASP) and the Masturbation Intensity Scale. The results confirm that guilt and shame can affect masturbation intensity. In other words, the higher a person's guilt and shame proneness, the lower their masturbation intensity.
