Abstract

ABSTRACT
The MQ-2 sensor is a gas detection device used to detect the presence of flammable and dangerous gases in the air. The aim of this final project focuses on the ability of the MQ-2 sensor to detect gases related to cigarette smoke. The MQ-2 sensor can detect a variety of gases including carbon monoxide (CO), methane (CH4), alcohol (ethanol), hydrogen (H2), and ammonia (NH3), which can be found in cigarette smoke. This sensor is also sensitive to smoke particles in general. Through device testing, we evaluated the sensitivity and responsiveness of the MQ-2 sensor to the concentrations of these gases in environments exposed to cigarette smoke. The test results of our device show that the MQ-2 sensor is effective in detecting the presence of cigarette smoke through identifying gases. These findings show the potential use of the MQ-2 sensor in cigarette smoke detection systems for security and health applications, as well as in the development of smart home technology that can monitor indoor air quality.
