Abstract
Background: Ineffective breathing patterns are inspiration or expiration that is unable to provide sufficient ventilation causing difficulty in breathing. This study aims to identify nursing actions using a combination of semi-Fowler position and oxygen therapy to improve breathing patterns in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in the emergency room and intensive care unit at Muhammadiyah University Malang Hospital.
Research Method: this research is a case report. The research subjects were 3 respondents with a medical diagnosis of CKD with problems with ineffective breathing patterns. Implementation of a combination of semi-fowler position and oxygen therapy. The outcome of this implementation is increasing oxygen levels in patients with ineffective breathing patterns.
Results: The results of research analysis after implementation using the semi-Fowler position and oxygen therapy in patients with ineffective breathing patterns are more effective in increasing oxygen levels in patients because the semi-Fowler position technique can stimulate the parasympathetic nerves and the muscles involved become more relaxed.
Conclusion: Giving oxygen and semi-Fowler position for 1x6 hours in the ER and 2x24 hours in the ICU can increase oxygen levels in patients with ineffective breathing patterns.
