Abstract
This study aims at analyzing the concept of accountability in Uang Panai tradition. This is a case study using an interpretive paradigm.. The object of this research is Uang Panai tradition in Bugis tribe. The analysis of data is conducted based on household accounting perspective. The result of this study shows that accountability in Uang Panai (UP) tradition includes 1) form of material sacrifice, 2) ethics and cultural law, and 3) socio-psychological relations. Uang Panai is considered as a form of responsibility of the groom to the bride by sacrificing the money and giving it to the bride's family. The bigger the Uang Panai, the greater the responsibility of the groom for the marriage. Bidding on nominal Uang Panai was also carried out until an agreement was obtained from both parties. This was done to avoid eloping which would be bad for the family name and would violate religion
