Abstract

Technological developments due to the era of the industrial revolution 4.0 greatly influence education. Learning that
implements technology as the development of that era is e-learning. This study aimed to determine the effect of
implementing e-learning through thematic in increasing students' knowledge and skills. The novelty of this research is the
combination of e-learning with thematic. This type of research is quasi-experimental, using a pretest & post-test control
group design. The subjects of this study were students of biology education at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang
who attended lectures on learning strategies. All classes (A, B, C, and D) conducted e-learning. The experimental class
(class A and C) used thematic learning, while the control class (class B and D) did not use thematic learning. The research
instrument used pretest-posttest and student assignment assessment rubrics. The analysis of knowledge data used ANOVA,
while skills data using ANOVA. The results of the one-way ANCOVA test showed that there was a significant difference
[F(4.101) = 1.106, p = 0.040, np2 = 0.050], because p = 0.040 < 0.050, so it can be said that e-learning through thematic
can increase student knowledge. The results of the One-way ANOVA analysis showed that there was a significant
difference [F(4.113) = 6.106, p < 0.001, np2 = 0.144], because p = 0.001 < 0.050, so it can be said that e-learning
through thematic can improve student skills
