RITUAL PERNIKAHAN ADAT JAWA SEBAGAI SIMBOL EKSISTENSI DOA (Analisis Semiotik pada Film "Mantan-Manten" Karya Farishad Latjuba)

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of changing mindsets and perspectives among a large portion of society, who have become indifferent and view tradition as merely something outdated. This change is due to globalization and the ease with which foreign cultures are integrated. As a result, traditional Javanese wedding ceremonies are understood only as classic rituals devoid of meaning, with a tendency to imitate modern wedding processes instead. The objective of this research is to understand the meaning of Javanese wedding rituals as presented in the film Mantan-Manten. This study employs an interpretative qualitative approach. Data collection is carried out using documentary techniques. The data will then be processed and presented according to Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis.
The findings from the film Mantan-Manten reveal that the rituals or symbols of Javanese weddings signify that the Javanese people are a religious community. Every ritual and item used carries the meaning of prayers and hopes for protection from misfortune.
