Abstract

The aim of this research is to investigate the problems faced by Elementary School Teacher Education students at UMM and how they overcome these problems in FLSP online listening learning. This research uses qualitative descriptive research. The subjects of this research were certain level students who took the FLSP listening course in online learning. The research sample consisted of seven students who had good grades in class, but apparently still had several problems. The instruments used in this research were an observation checklist and interview guide. The findings of this research show that Elementary School Teacher Education students face four listening problems in online learning, namely vocabulary, audio clarity, bad equipment, and concentration. This problem is caused by several factors, such as students living in areas where internet connections are not yet fully covered, the speaking speed of native speakers, and students' lack of concentration due to classes being held online. On the other hand, in dealing with these problems, they have their own solutions to overcome their problems in FLSP listening online learning, such as enriching vocabulary by doing independent learning, reviewing material with classmates, doing additional activities before class activities start in order to increase their concentration. The results of this study are expected to provide contributions in information and inputs in learning and teaching listening skill as a foreign language. By points out the difficulties encountered by the Primary School Teacher Education Department students in online learning FLSP listening class, it might extend awareness to the teachers and the learners that experience student difficulties gave contribute to teaching and learning to listening comprehension in the future.
