Abstract

Generation Z or abbreviated as Gen Z is a generation that has been familiar with technology in their daily lives. One of the advances in information technology is the use of internet networks on smartphones that have been integrated into everyday life. Individuals who experience social anxiety will use smartphones as a diversion to establish social relationships because they feel more comfortable and safe to reduce the anxiety experienced. This feeling of comfort causes students to be reluctant to leave their smartphones for too long, so that these conditions trigger nomophobia. This study aims to determine the effect of social anxiety tendencies on nomophobia in Gen Z students. This study uses a quantitative approach with snowball sampling technique and a sample size of 161 people. The research instrument used is the Indonesian student social anxiety scale to measure social anxiety, while the nomophobia scale uses The NMPQ-10 (Indo-Version). This research hypothesis test uses a simple linear regression test using the help of SPSS 25 for windows with a value of 0.017 <0.05, so there is an influence between social anxiety on nomophobia. While the R Square value is obtained at 0.035, meaning that 3.5% of social anxiety has an influence on nomophobia. Based on the research found that the tendency of social anxiety has a positive and significant effect on the tendency of nomophobia.
