Abstract

This research aims to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and academic procrastination in students. Academic procrastination is the behavior of procrastinating on academic assignments which causes individuals to experience academic failure. Procrastination itself is a phenomenon that is often carried out by students, making it difficult in academic situations. The research population is Muhammadiyah University Malang students. The sampling technique used accidental sampling with data collection using a self-efficacy scale likert and a procrastination academic scale totaling respondent 196 with criteria 16-26 years old, domicile in East Java with female and male gender. Data analysis uses non-parametric analysis because there is data that is not normally distributed by using the correlation coefficient test using SPSS versi 25 for Windows. The correlation test results obtained R = -0.369, p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). So it can be concluded that the self-efficacy variable has a significant negative relationship with procrastination. The influence of self-efficacy on procrastination can be seen from the results of the coefficient of determination (R = 0.369) So it can be concluded that the variables of self-efficacy and academic procrastination have a significant positive relationship. The influence of self-efficacy on procrastination can be seen from the results of the coefficient of determination (R = 0.369) showing that the effectiveness of the predictions provided by the self-efficacy variable on procrastination is 36.9%. Therefore, there are still 63.9% other factors outside of research that might cause academic procrastination behavior in students.
