Abstract

Adolescence is a period of development that is faced with the search for identity with various situations that lead to being able to adjust. The need to adapt and interact is needed by adolescents to build social interest in their environment. Social interest in adolescents can arise through parental parenting including parental behavior at home or in the environment, attention and attachment given by parents to children, and parents' responses to children when they are in the surrounding environment. Attachment with parents in adolescents builds trust, establishes good communication, and prevents feelings of alienation or exclusion by their parents. This study aims to identify the relationship between attachment to parents and social interest in adolescents. The research is quantitative with a correlational study approach with convenience sampling technique with research subjects of x school students totaling 118 students aged 15-19 years. The instruments used were the Sulliman Scale Of Social Interest (SSSI) by Gradel (1989) and the Inventory Of Parent And Peer Attachment (IPPA) by Greenberg (2009). The results of the study showed that there was a relationship between attachment to parents and adolescents' social interest with a value of r = 0.251 and p = 0.006. This shows that the hypothesis is accepted and it is stated that there is a positive significant relationship between attachment to parents and adolescent social interest. The results of H2 show that there is no difference in the relationship between attachment to parents and adolescents' social interests in terms of gender.
