Abstract

Adolescence is a crucial stage of development and experiences many developments, one of which is the development of self-esteem. Adolescence self-esteem is greatly influenced by the surrounding environment, especially the family. Parenting for adolescent requires more than just a bond between parents and adolescent, but includes assessment between parents and adolescent. The parenting style that tends to influence low levels of self-assessment is authoritarian parenting. Authoritarian parenting is a type of parenting pattern that is characterized by strict control, rigid rules, punishment, and poor verbal communication between parents and adolescent. The purpose to be achieved in this research is to determine the influence of parents authoritarian parenting style on self-esteem in adolescents. The design of this research is non-experimental quantitative. The research subjects involved 250 adolescent aged 13-19 years who received critical, restrictive, restraint and punitive care from their parents. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The instrument uses the RSES scale (Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale) and the PSDQ scale (Parenting Style and Dimension Questionnaire). Analysis of the research data used a simple linear regression test
using SPSS version 25. The results showed that the beta (β) was -0.659 and the value (p) = 0.000 (<0.05), it can be concluded that parents authoritarian parenting style influences self-esteem in adolescents
