Abstract
Background: According to WHO, the increase in hypertension throughout the world is very rapid, with Southeast Asia even occupying the 3rd highest position for hypertension. The phenomenon of tera exercise in China has long been using tera exercise which is usually done by people aged 40-80 years because they believe tera exercise can overcome the negative impacts of old age. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between tera exercise and blood pressure in elderly people with hypertension in Poncokusumo Village, Malang.
Research Method: The research design uses a cross-sectional analytical research design with a sample size of 40 people with hypertension using a total sampling technique. Data were analyzed using the Spearman rank correlation test with a significance value of less than α 0.05. Data collection uses observation sheets.
Results: The results showed that the blood pressure of elderly people with hypertension in the first week before exercise was higher than a total of 40 respondents, 12 respondents (30.0%) included mild hypertension and 28 respondents (70.0%) included hypertension. moderate hypertension. In the second week after exercise, blood pressure decreased with 20 respondents (50.0%) in the mild hypertension category and 20 respondents (50.0%) in the moderate hypertension category. The results of the Spearman correlation test show that there is a relationship between tera exercise and blood pressure in elderly people with hypertension, as evidenced by a significant value of 0.000 and a value (r) of 0.655 with a strong relationship strength.
Conclusion: Hypertension sufferers who do tera exercises will experience a decrease in blood pressure. This tera exercise will relax the body and can dilate the capillaries so that it can improve blood circulation. Therefore, people who often do tera exercises tend to have stable blood pressure than people who rarely or never do tera exercises.
