Abstract

Generation Z is a generation that is highly exposed to social media and increasingly sophisticated technological developments. The use of media often causes feelings of anxiety due to the desire to continue to be connected with one's social environment and an excessive fear of missing out on information or what is usually called Fear of Missing Out or FoMO. One of the factors that causes FoMO is self-regulation. Self-regulation is the basis for someone
to carry out certain actions or behavior, and can control themselves when using social media. This research aims to find out whether there is an influence between self-regulation and fear of missing out in generation Z. This research uses a correlational quantitative type. The subject of this research is generation Z. Subjects were taken using Non-Probability Sampling, namely Accidental Sampling. Generation z subjects with an age range of 16-27 years with a total of 213 subjects. This research uses 2 measuring instruments, namely the self-regulation scale and the fear of missing out scale. Based on research, the results of a simple regression test of selfregulation influence the fear of missing out in generation z with a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.05), and a contribution of (R Square = 0.058).
