Abstract

Goats are livestock that have a promising prospect for development in Indonesia, mainly because the majority of the Indonesian population is Muslim and their religious practices involve events like aqiqah (birth celebration) and Eid al-Adha (Sacrifice Feast), where goat meat is in demand. Additionally, the high price of beef has led to a shift towards goat meat consumption. Therefore, farmers strive to increase goat meat production through crossbreeding local goat breeds with superior breeds, such as the Boer goat known for its fast growth rate. This research, conducted at Barokah Farm, Kediri, from August 2022 to November 2022, used a correlation test method to determine the relationship between birth weight and weaning weight in Boer goats. The study utilized 30 full-blood Boer goat samples out of a total population of 1500 goats at Barokah Farm, Kediri. The correlation test results for male Boer goats showed a correlation coefficient of 0.78 and a coefficient of
determination of 60.8%, while for female goats, the correlation coefficient was 0.59 with a coefficient of determination of 32.3%. These differences are influenced by growth hormones that work to maximize the growth process in the body tissues, leading to variations in growth. Additionally, the growth is affected by the quality of the feed provided during the rearing process. Therefore, in goat farming, especially for Boer goats, the selection of superior quality breeding stock should be carried out to maximize profits.
