Abstract

This research based on the importance of external relations activity that needs to be build by companies. Same as in RRI Malang Station as the oldest radio station in Malang. According to interview result at February 12th, 2007 with Mr. Buang Supeno, A.MA, SH, MH, Assistant Manager for Editorial, Communication, and Documentation, that also perform public relation activity explains that all these year, the image of the RRI Malang Station is a radio station that "old fashioned", a radio station that full with non transparent bureaucracy, and labeled as the government funnel radio station, or other imagery from the external public. That is why, to take care, build and maintain that image become an essential matter. RRI Malang Station considered as a good representative for research because RRI Station is the pioneer in radio broadcasting in Indonesia. In his opinion, Tedjoworo (2001), explains that an image is part of imagination. The imagination is a power to build images/mental concept that indirectly gathered by our sense. Imagination in that understanding rely upon images that became the essential elements, image developed in society because of reality, sensing experience from understanding (conceptual) and other imagination power. This imagination brought up and push the image, specially in image building and processing. That is why, a company to reach that positive image, needs to create activities to regain and rebuild support and cooperation from its public. Through external relation activity, in this research, with community relations, media/press relations and government relations, at least a company have responsibilities and not to ignore the needs of its public. Where as in his opinion, Suhandang ( 2004 ), that public have right to know about something that correlate with its needs. The public sometimes very critical about something that actual and unusual. Because its nature that familiar is one of the key that can decide the success of external relation efforts.
