Abstract

Speaking ability regards as the most important use in the target language learning because, the objective of learning a foreign language is to use the target language in real communication. So in teaching and learning speaking process, the techniques of evaluation is needed as the measure of the students’ achievement and the students score in speaking ability. The main objective of this study is to investigate the evaluation technique of speaking to the second year student at private SMAs in Malang. The research design used in this study is descriptive research that was designed to obtain information concerning the evaluation technique. The population of the study is the second year teachers at private SMAs in Malang. The sample of this study is three English teachers from three private SMAs in Malang. Those are SMA Widya Gama, SMA Kertanegara, and SMA Islam Baiturrohmah. The instruments used in this research are interview and observation. The results of this study show that based on the interview and observation, the evaluation techniques used by three English teachers are discussion, oral report, reading aloud and question and answer.
