Abstract

Based on thought that internet is a profitable media to push global communication, Gramedia Bookstore used internet as communication media. Beside to control the widespread branches, Gramedia Bookstore also could give information and various service facility to customers through online media. The writer has interest to reveal how the internet usage as communication media at Gramedia bookstore through the writer’s research which was done at one of Gramedia branch, that was Gramedia Bookstore Basuki Rachmat Malang City. The research aimed to find out the benefit of internet usage as communication media. In this research, the writer used qualitative descriptive approach, with case study research kind. Location chosen by the writer was Gramedia Bookstore Basuki Rachmat Malang. For data collection, the writer used interview and observation. From the research there could be found the benefit of internet usage as communication media in Gramedia Bookstore Basuki Rachmat was selling increase, since the consumer got new book information which existed in Gramedia Bookstore Basuki Rachmat Malang through site. Beside, the customer who was busy and need certain book could use the online selling service through the site. The inhibition in using internet as communication media at Gramedia Bookstore Basuki Rahcmat were: (1) internet selling was not as much as physical selling at Gramedia Bookstore; (2) Various book cause Gramedia has trouble in giving clear explanation for each book, it complained often since in choosing the book there was no reference or explanation about book contains; (3) books demand by customer were not prepared in Gramedia Bookstore, it could be happened since they had no stock, since the book had been popular in mass media, or it had run-out of stock; (4) customer preferred to buy in direct way to Gramedia Bookstore than using internet, physical buying and seeng the condition in direct way give different impression for customer than accessing in internet.
