The present study is intended to know the non linguistic problems faced by the second semester students of UMM in learning speaking, the causes of the students’ problems and the ways to cope the students’ problems in learning speaking. Descriptive quantitative research was used as design of this study; the research involved 100 students in the second semester of UMM in learning speaking. The data was obtained through the questionnaire for the students. The result of this study showed that the students faced some problems. Particularly in term of students’ motivation, teachers’ method, material, and facilities. The most problems dealing with students’ motivation was 75 students (75%) felt worried about making mistakes in speaking English, the cause of this problem was that they could not use the right English pattern. The ways to cope with the problems were the students tried to speak English in the class or out class, and the students tried to speak English even they did some errors. The problems dealing with teachers’ method was 62 students (62%) felt teachers’ method did not give motivation the students to be active in speaking, the causes of these problem was they felt that the process of teaching learning process did not do in varied ways. The way to cope with their problem was the students hoped the system of teaching would be varied in speaking such as roleplay and telling story. The problems dealing with material was 62 students (62%) did not understand about the topic that was being discussed, because the teacher gave too difficult topics to them. The way to cope with their problem was the students hoped that the topics had correlation with daily activity. And the most problems dealing with facility was 67 students (67%) did not use the University facilities such as laboratory and library well, because the students felt that the teacher did not use media for teaching learning speaking. The way to cope with their problem was the students hoped that the books in the library used in speaking class.
