Abstract

This research was conducted in order to understand and to know about the effect of solution concentration and seed immersion length in ZPT Gibberellin Acid (GA3) to seed germination and seedling growth of Kepuh (Sterculia foetida Linn). This research is conducted in the experimentation and seedling garden of Forestry Major of Agricultural Faculty of Muhammadiyah University of Malang, it was located on 560 m above the sea level and has 1833 mm/year average rainfall level. It is started on February 2009. The research design used group random design (RAK) arranged in factorial, consists of two factors: the first factor was solution concentration of growth regulator substance of Gibberellin Acid (GA3) comprising 4 levels they were: (K0) no GA3 solution concentration, (K2) 50 ppm solution concentration, (K3) 100 ppm solution concentration, and (K4) 150 ppm solution concentration. The second factor was seed immersion length comprised 3 levels they were: (P1) 6 hours in seed immersion length, (P2) 12 hours, and (P3) 18 hours. Variant analysis was conducted to the data obtained through each observation parameters in 5% and 1% rates and Duncan Test was to know the difference between the first and the other treatment in 5% rate. From the research result and statistical analysis result, it can be known that the effect of solution concentration and seed immersion length in growth regulator substance of GA3 to seed germination and seedling growth occur an interaction on the germination percentage, germination value, and seedling high variables. combination treatmen on the best a result of interaction was that K3P3 is not ststistically significantly diferrent with the combination treatment K2P3. But, there is not any interaction in germination rate, seedling stalk diameter, the number of seedling leaves, seedling root length, wet weight, and dry weight variables. From the research results, it can be concluded that the solution concentration of GA3 is 150 ppm and seed immersion length was 18 hours made the best seed germination and seedling growth.
