Abstract

The background of this research is the phenomenon of unbalance role distribution inside family in Malamoi ethnic. The unbalance role distribution might cause problems. The aim of marital will be reach when family builded on gender equality and fairness. These are dynamics condition, where women and men have the same right, obligation, role and chance lean on respect, appreciate and help each other. That is why, the role of vary and function should have the same aim. For example, father has responsibility as leader and responsible for family expenses. Then mother as manager should able to manage and do all domestic things. The aim of the research is to find out the distribution role inside Malamoi ethnic, the problem appears during the role distribution and women’s attitude toward this role inside family Malamoi ethnic. This research using qualitative method, the overt and structured interviewed along with observation were conducted to acquire the main data. This research conducted on October 26th until November 1st 2007. The subjects of research are Malamoiese women who have been married, and chief of Malamoi ethnic, which is placed at Sorong Papua. Researcher using descriptive qualitative to analyze the data. Research revealed on its result that there are unbalance role distribution inside Malamoi ethnic base on their misperception about wedding present. The men tough after they gave wedding present to women, men have full right on women, such as order wives to work but husband doesn’t. These unbalance role distribution cause problem and conflicts between husband and wife, and sometime ended with domestic violence. Women from Malamoi ethnic have negative perception toward the unbalance role distribution in family. These attitudes divide on three components, which are cognitive, affective and conative or behavior.
