Research about comparison on Pilkada political reality construction in local media based on statement by Farid M. Ibrahim on his article “Media Massa, Pilkada” (Tribun, 17/07/207) says that model of journalism which dominates local mass media in Pilkada is horse race journalism; where media focuses on the horses without giving attention to the public needs. Intentionally or not, local media has done setting agenda which force people to get away from “healthy” political process. Start from this reality, it’s important to examine the comparison on Pilkada political reality construction of local mass media which they have shown on the news around Pilkada Batu 2007, especially related to the mayor candidates of Batu City who joined Pilkada. As one of the new city, but had faced hard force from medias, of course the “battle” is had not only by the candidates but also the local medias in Batu City. Here, we need to look on the media’s objectivity in guarding local democracy. So, that is why the researcher interests to know: (1) How is Batu City Pilkada political reality construction in local mass media in daily newspapers; Malang Post, Radar Malang, and Surya Malang Edition October 19Novemer 5, 2007, and (2) How is the comparison of Batu Pilkada political reality construction in the news around it which were shown on those three newspapers. The research method that is used here is Analisis Wacana Kritis (Critical Discourse Analysis CDA). The use of CDA here is meant to show the unity between text analysis, production process analysis, consumption and text distribution, and sociocultural which had spread around that issue. So, the unit which is analyzed is focused on the news around campaign by the candidates that were shown by those three newspapers. In this research, the units which were analyzed are not only on text structure, but also on how the text is made. Furthermore, in getting suitable research result with the statement problems and the research goal, researcher used collecting data technique by documenting and interviewing. The result of this research showed that those three Medias had involved on onesided political claims about the mayor candidates which were reported. It was influenced by several factors just like economic factor, close relation factor (Malang Post); economic factor, politics (Radar Malang); economic factor, idealism (Surya Malang). So, there is a clear vision that economic factors had played the important role here. Political construction which was built through the news on those three Medias seemed unfitted if it was seen on the function of mass media itself as guard of democracy, but it was seemed as a supporter of one candidate only. So, in other words, it can be said that local press is still on chronicle point. It means press is still just like when it was in New Order (became slave of the authority) and now it does not totally change yet. Local newspaper obedience (even for national newspaper) are still on two sides; the authority (political will), and industrialists (economic will).
