Abstract

In this study, the writer interested to analyze the teaching learning activities of reading skill in English textbook for third year Junior High School based on the 2006 English curriculum. In detail, this study attempted to answer 1) the teaching learning activities of reading skill for Junior High school English textbook based on the 2006 English curriculum, 2) the English textbook that has the most varieties of teaching learning activity of reading, 3) the English textbook that has the fewest varieties of teaching learning activity of reading. In analyzing the textbook, the writer used descriptive research design. The populations of this study were all the English textbook for third year Junior High School based on 2006 English curriculum, and the sample of this research were English in Focus published by JP. Books Seize the Day published by Piranti and Real Time published by Erlangga. The instrument used was documentation. The findings of this research showed that the teaching learning activities of reading skill in third year Junior High School textbook contained of three English textbook. First, in English in Focus published by JP. Books consists of 10 varieties of reading activities, they are reading text, answering the question based on the text, multiple choices, matching the words with the meaning in the box, filling and completing the sentences with the words in the box, answering the question based on the picture, matching the words with the pictures, answering the questions True (T) and False (F) based on the text, matching the picture with the instruction, finding the paragraphs based on the following information. Then, the teaching learning activities of reading in Seize the Day published by Piranti consist of 10 activities of reading activitiesÍž reading text, answering the questions based on the text, matching the words, answering the questions True (T) and False (F), filling and completing the blanks with provided words , puzzle, matching the pictures, multiple choices, matching the phrases or sentences, completing the table based on the passage. The last in Real Time published by Erlangga, the teaching learning activities of reading had 7 varieties of reading activities, they are reading text, answering the questions based on the text, finding the meaning of the words, multiple choices, answering the questions True (T) and False (F) based on the text, filling and completing the blanks with provided words, making questions based on the text. Among the three English textbook, English in Focus published by JP. Books and Seize the Day published by Piranti has the most varieties of reading activities. Further, in Real Time published by Erlangga had the fewest varieties of reading activities.
