University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) again received a grant from Directorate of Higher Education. Won Program Hibah Kompetisi Institusi for more than 4 billion rupiah and 2 billion rupiah of Accreditation Incentive Fund BERMUTU made UMM received at least 6 billion rupiah from the Directorate of Higher Education. In PHKI, UMM beat some universities in Indonesia and received a grant for from 2009 to 2010. Prof. Dr. Sujono, M.Kes, the Vice Rector I, stated that UMM won two themes for PHKI. He called them theme A and theme B. Theme A was a program about the development of UMM managing and imaging. "This theme is subdivided into effective and integrated management, database integration and management information systems, enhancing the effectiveness of human resource management and development of academic quality assurance system," said Sujono. While theme B would be about the improvement of the graduates’ competitiveness through the quality improvement, relevance, and access expanding. There were three sub-activities; the graduates’ competitiveness improving through practical skills, the study period acceleration, and access expanding. So far, said Sujono, UMM had already managed those themes. But as a private university which looked for the funds by itself, UMM should be wisely managing and sharing with other programs. So, the government aids as PHKI was an urgent thing. "We will make it optimum for the governace and the graduates’ competitiveness,” continued he. In these couple years, the trend of graduating-on-time had increased. The stakeholders also welcomed UMM graduates. "Through this grant, we hope the qualified graduates and their graduating time will be more competitive. So, they can have more access to work,” said Sujono. To have those competitive graduates, the theme A was much needed. So, the information system managing, academic quality controlling, and effectiveness of human resources management were required to be strengthen. "UMM has many institutions to handle them, such as ICT Centre, Academic Quality Control Bureau, and Human Resources Development Bureau. We need to make their work maximum,” said he. UMM got not only PHKI, but also DIA Bermutu (Dana Insentif Akreditasi and Better Education Trough Reformed Management and Universal Teacher Upgrading). It was a program funded by DIKTI. UMM got two billion to fund its lecturers to join a training in New Zealand for four months. Those lecturers got trained for accreditation strengthening for School Teacher department and Biology department. Two lecturers who would go to New Zealand end of this month were Drs. Budiono, M.Si and Dra. Thatit Manon, M.Hum. They would go to Massey University New Zealand to join a program entitled Better Education Trough Reformed Management and Universal Teacher Upgrading. "I hope this can be strengthen UMM image as the best university, which we get for two years,” said Sujono. (t_ris)
