English has a very important role and position in the era of globalization; this means that teaching English as a means of international communication is an obligatory for the people all over the world. In mastering English language and developing positive attitudes towards the learning of English as a foreign language, we have to study a technique of teaching practice; hereby, the writer mainly focus his study on vocabulary teaching technique only. This study is conducted at MAK Al-Ittihad Al-Islami (PERSIS) Camplong Madura on 17th of June 2004/2005. The purpose of this study is to know the technique used by tacher in teaching vocabulary at third year student at MAK Al-ittihad Al-islami (PERSIS) Camplong Madura. This study used descriptive design and the population used in this study was the third grade teacher of English at MAK Al-Ittihad Al-Islami Camplong Madura. This study had no sample because all the members of population were investigated so that it is called as population research. To obtain and find out the data this study used two instruments that is interview and indirect observation. To supplement the data in this study, the writer made observation and interview to the English teacher on vocabulary teaching techniques of the third year students at MAK PERSIS Camplong Madura in the academic year 2004/2005. The result of this study indicates that teacher has developed and used four techniques in teaching vocabulary to the students. They are used to make the students easier to define the words when then found new words or difficult words in a certain text. Finally, the writer suggests to all teachers of English to investigate some techniques used by the teacher in teaching language component especially vocabulary teaching techniques. And the teacher of English should play a big role, as the facilitator and material presenter, organizator and motivator, and should use various teaching vocabulary techniques.
