Abstract

This research was conducted in 1 November – 12 December 2009 in Jumiang Tanjung village Pademawu district – Madura – East Java. The aim of this study is to identify the level of raft existence from the water surface toward the growth of see grass Eucheuma cottonii species green and chocolate based on the water condition in that cultivation area. This is needed since the condition of waters in Jumiang coast is not satisfied to the criteria for cultivating see grass Eucheuma cottonii that is that the waters are too shallow with the basic of the water that consists of mud ans temperature and high salinity. The use of it is to provide such informationby raft method and its existence in which one of the water surface which is suitable for cultivating see grass Eucheuma cottonii on the dray season in order to produce a maximal product for enhancing farmer fee of those see grasses in Jumiang coast. This research is using experimental method with test model using comparative t model to compare with two treatments and on the deep of 50 cm from the water surface shows that the better growing is on Eucheuma cottonii species chocolate. The addition of weight of Eucheuma cottonii species green in the surface is 72 gram per family and for species green on the deep 50 cm is 74 gram per its family. Whereas the growth of Eucheuma cottonii species chocolate is lack of good with its weight on the raft in the surface is 32 gram per family and on the raft under the surface 50 cm is 16 gram per family. This growth is affected by the temperature in the surface 34˚C and on the deep 50 cm is 31˚C and its salinity which is around 36 – 43 ppt with its flow 12 – 49 cm/second and the brightness between 42 – 99 cm. Besides the availability of its substance which is fair enough Phosphates whirl between 0.25 – 75 mg/l, Nitrite 0 mg/l and Nitrate 25 – 75 mg/l. The conclusion obtained from this research is that the growth of see grass Eucheuma cottonii species green is better on the deep 50 cm at dry season than the growth of see grass Eucheuma cottonii species chocolate whose the growth is lack of good. Therefore, it can be suggested to use raft under the water surface as deep as 50 cm for cultivating see grass Eucheuma cottonii species green on the dry season that is on August to December in order to gain best and continually production result of see grass for increasing the income.
