Abstract

This research focuses on the shift of hijab model in gaining social prestige in Radar Malang Hijab community. In the community of hijab radar Malang, the use of hijab models that vary is a fashion identity that has been attached to everyday life. In this case the hijab becomes a religious identity, ethnicity and social status. Therefore, the use of hijab today, has become part of the expression of individuals or groups that can free from uniformity, so as to give birth to a variety of models and ways of hijab, depending on the individual or group of each.
In the community of hijab radar Malang, the use of hijab models is a reflection of religious identity inherent in everyday life, but also influenced by social prestige. Social prestige arises because Muslim clothing or hijab can convey a message to be a modern and pious person at the same time. One group that reflects its identity is the hijaber community. The Hijaber community introduces itself with certain characteristics clearly aimed at distinguishing itself from other groups and emphasizing the social status that is reflected in its way of life. The lifestyle is usually owned by people with average economic ability and above. Therefore, their lifestyle suggests social prestige and class to them. Hijab is no longer just a head covering, but also a place of status and prestige.
Referring to the theory of sociology of fashion Georg Simmel said fashion as a way of dressing or as a way of Speech, Art, All Areas of learning, politics and religion. Where fashion is related to the individual involved on the fundamental conflict in the way of acting. On the other hand, they feel interested in imitating and at different times they feel like distinguishing themselves from others, so this will lead to differences in social prestige in the use of hijab models because each individual or group has its own way and hijab models in their daily lives.
