Abstract

Podcasts are a new media that has received public attention in seeking information and entertainment. The rapid interest in audio-visual media makes podcasts not only in audio form, but includes visual elements in podcasts. Podcasts that are packaged in video form have different preferences than podcasts that are only audio-based. The purpose of this research is to find out how high the preferences of Communication Science students at Muhammadiyah University of Malang, Audio Visual concentration as an audience for Podcasts on the Youtube Noice channel.
The concepts applied in this study use Melvin de Fleur's theory, namely the theory of Individual Differences, The Social Categories, Social Relations, and Culture Norms as the formation of audience characteristics and this study uses four aspects of podcasts in the form of videos as research indicators originated by Richard Harrington, which include Show Host, Show Graphic, Music, and Subject Matter.
This research is descriptive with a quantitative approach and the research method is using a survey. The data collection in this study used a questionnaire instrument. The subjects in this study were students of Communication Sciences, University of Muhammadiyah Malang, Audio Visual concentration class of 2019 with a population of 84 students. This study used purposive sampling technique and found 47 respondents. The data analysis technique used in this research is descriptive statistics.
The results of the analysis of 47 respondents of this research show that the preferences of Communication Science students of Muhammadiyah University of Malang, Audio Visual concentration class of 2019 towards podcast videos on the Youtube Noice channel have a tendency to like in the high category in each aspect initiated by Richard Harrington, namely show host, show graphics, music, and subject matter.
