Abstract

In the implementation of an accelerated program, not out of any shortcomings, one of which is the emergence of problems experienced by students acceleration, which was due to conflicting requirements, the pressures and demands for achievement, etc.. This study aims to determine the problems faced by the student acceleration and the coping strategies used. This research is a quantitative descriptive research that aims to describe the problems faced by the students of acceleration and coping strategies used, studies on student acceleration SMU Negeri 1 Samarinda. Population as well as samples in this research that students acceleration SMU Negeri 1 Samarinda. The sampling technique used is total sampling. Data collection techniques, using a questionnaire. The data obtained were processed using the percentage formula which then held the classification percentage results. Results were analyzed by descriptive data processing. The conclusion from this study that most students' academic problems in the form of acceleration experienced anxiety when learning achievements and disappointments will decline low learning achievement (91.67%) and coping strategies of the most widely used in dealing with this problem is emotional focused coping. Problems associated with social adjustment, the most experienced are renggangnya friendships and lack of opportunity to take extracurricular activities (54.16%) and coping strategies of the most widely used is problem focused coping. While the problems associated with emotional adjustment, the most experienced are experiencing boredom under the existing pressure (87.5%) and coping strategies of the most widely used mainly is emotional focused coping. Another issue is the acceleration experienced by students with learning problems (20.83%), problems relating to others (20.83%), the problem of further studies (12.5%), lack of classroom facilities (8.33), problem being too lazy and to underestimate any existing problems (4.16%), most of the problem is solved by using coping strategies that focus on the problem (problem focused coping). In general, the selection of coping strategies students this acceleration is appropriate where they use coping strategies according to the type of stress experienced.
