Abstract

Physic nut (Jatropha curcas L.) is a tropical plant commodity that has the potential as a substitute for fuel oil. Jatropha seeds have high oil content and very potential as a raw material for biodiesel. This study aims to obtain information about the level of seed production, the quality of crude jatropha oil and biodiesel as a source of biofuels. The research was conducted in Kedung Pengaron Village, Pasuruan and the Laboratory of Vegetable Oil Technology, University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The study was used a randomized block design with four replications. The results showed that the J.curcas genotype had a significant effect on the average number of fruits per plant, number of seeds per plant, dry weight of seeds per plant and seed oil content. The number of fruits per plant and dry weight of seeds per plant produced by JCUMM genotypes (JCUMM-5, JCUMM-6, JCUMM-7, JCUMM-18) were higher than IP3A and IP3P controls. The number of seeds per plant ranged from 91.3 (IP3P) to 236.6 (JCUMM-5). The dry weight of 100 seeds of various J.curcas genotypes ranged from 64.1 g (JCUMM-6) to 69.7 g (JCUMM-5) while the seed oil content ranged from 39.5% (JCUMM-6) to 57.7% (JCUMM-7). The results of the esterification test showed that the Free Fatty Acid of crude jatropha oil ranged from 0.2% (JCUMM-18) to 1.97% (IP3A). All genotypes have FFA levels of less than 2% so it still suitable for use as biodiesel material. The value of the acid number was obtained between 2.9 mg-KOH / g (JCUMM-6) to 6.40 mg-KOH / g (IP3A). While the Iodine number yields between 94.5 g I2 / 100g (JCUMM-5) to 102.4 g I2 / 100g (JCUMM-6)
