Abstract

The limited job opportunities in a region drive some individuals to decide to become Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI). This situation logically entails consequences for the children of these workers, as the extended family plays a crucial role in providing emotional support to the children. The study aims to understand the role of the extended family in caring for children whose parents are PMI. Subjects were selected using purposive sampling, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, analyzed using qualitative interactive analysis (Miles and Huberman model). The research findings indicate that the extended family's role in caring for children of PMI in Kaliasri Village involves three Principle-Centered Family roles: modeling, mentoring, and organizing. Recommendations include PMI parents carefully considering their responsibilities towards their children's upbringing and extended family members fulfilling their duties by providing supervision and guidance.
