Makna Karakter Warna dan Geometri Visual Analisis Semiotika Pada film Midsommar (2019)

This study analyzes how color characteristics and visual geometric patterns in Ari Aster's Midsommar (2019) construct meaning through the lens of Roland Barthes' semiotic framework of denotation, connotation, and myth. Eight key frames selected from the 147-minute theatrical release were examined as the primary data. The findings reveal that Midsommarsubverts the prevailing myth surrounding conventional horror film aesthetics, which has long been synonymous with darkness and gloom, through the deliberate use of bright colors namely white, yellow, and green. In other words, the film's visual system denaturalizes the dominant myth of dark-light horror, giving rise to a new mythological construct: daylight horror, further reinforced through its distinctive color palette and geometric visual motifs.
