Abstract
This research analyses the process of German government’s Securitization when responding to increased Xenophobia against migrants after the 2015 refugee crisis. The main focus is on how Xenophobia is constructed as a threat to social stability by adopting the Copenhagen School theory approach to security studies. The research method used is Qualitative Descriptive Analysis of discourse in official documents, public policies, and media narratives during 2016-2020. The findings show that the German government constructs Xenophobia as a social security threat through political statements, enhanced surveillance of far-right groups, digital regulations against Hate Speech, and migration integration policies. This strategy involves state actors such as Chancellor Angela Merkel, Interior Ministry, Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, and the Federal Criminal Police Office in constructing policy legitimacy in public spheres. The study’s findings reveal that Securitization does not aim to restrict migration but acts as an instrument to maintain social cohesion and plural democracy amid rising societal polarization. It is concluded that German securitization strategy plays an essential role in managing socio-political consequences after the refugee crisis.
