Abstract
Biomass is an alternative energy source that can be utilized sustainably because it originates from abundant organic materials. The utilization of biomass waste into biopellets can reduce dependence on fossil fuels. This study used sengon wood sawdust (Falcataria moluccana (L)Nielsen) and teak leaves (Tectona grandis L.f.) as raw materials for biopellets. The research variables included material composition and particle size. The study was conducted from January to May 2025 at the Laboratory of Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang. The tests included moisture content, ash content, volatile matter, and calorific value. The results showed that material composition and particle size influenced the characteristics of the biopellets. Biopellets made from sengon wood sawdust showed the best quality, with an ash content of 6.84%, volatile matter of 79.95%, and a calorific value of 4604.90 cal/g. The 60-mesh treatment produced the lowest moisture content of 10.82%, while the 40-mesh treatment resulted in the highest moisture content of 13.32%. In general, biopellets made from sengon wood sawdust with finer particle sizes exhibited better characteristics and have the potential to be an environmentally friendly alternative fuel.
