Abstract

Students’ mental health is an important aspect that supports psychological well-being, social relationships, sense of safety, and academic success in the school environment. This study aimed to measure the School Mental Health Index (SMHI) among students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Sidoarjo based on five dimensions: student well-being, social relationships, sense of safety, academic resilience, and school policies and facilities. A mixed-methods approach with a concurrent triangulation design and index research method was employed. The sample consisted of 750 students selected from a population of 1204 students using stratified random sampling. Quantitative data were collected through Likert-scale questionnaires, while qualitative data were obtained through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and interviews. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, thematic analysis, and composite index calculations with an equal weighting approach. The findings revealed that the School Mental Health Index score was 73,06 which falls into the high category. These findings indicate that students generally perceive the school mental health condition positively across all measured dimensions. The results are expected to provide a basis for schools to maintain and strengthen programs that support students’ mental health sustainably.
