Abstract
ABSTRACT
Critical thinking skills and scientific attitudes are essential competencies that students must possess in 21st-century science learning. However, science learning in Islamic-based schools still faces the challenge of limited teaching materials that systematically integrate scientific concepts with Islamic values. This study aims to develop a learning module on biotechnology integrated with Islamic values that is valid, practical, and effective in improving the critical thinking skills and scientific attitudes of 9th grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Adiwerna, Tegal Regency. This study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model. The effectiveness test employed a quasi-experimental design with a Pretest–Posttest Control Group Design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, questionnaires, critical thinking skills tests, and scientific attitude questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted descriptively and inferentially using validity, reliability, normality, homogeneity, paired sample t-tests, independent sample t-tests, and the N-Gain test.
The results showed that the developed module had a very valid level of validity, based on assessments by material experts (with a score of 4.11), linguists (with a score of 4.46), and media experts (with a score of 4.58). Practitioner assessments yielded a practicality percentage of 91%, while student responses reached 85%, categorized as very practical. The effectiveness test results indicated that the use of the module significantly improved students' critical thinking skills and scientific attitudes. For critical thinking skills, the paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test obtained a Sig. = 0.000 (p<0.05) with an N-Gain value of 0.7463 (high category). Meanwhile, for the scientific attitude variable, the paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test also obtained a Sig. = 0.000 (p<0.05) with an N-Gain value of 0.6062, indicating a significant increase in students' scientific attitudes after using the learning module.
Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the developed learning module for biotechnology material integrated with Islamic values meets the criteria of being very valid, very practical, and effective in improving students' critical thinking skills and scientific attitudes, making it suitable for use as teaching material in science lessons in junior high schools.
