Abstract

This study aims to develop a digital Jombangan language dictionary as a medium for Javanese cultural literacy in elementary schools. The background of this research is based on the decreasing use of regional languages among school-age children due to the dominance of the national language and the influence of global digital culture. The Jombangan language, as part of local cultural heritage, contains historical, linguistic, and local wisdom values that are important to preserve through primary education. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE development model, which consists of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The resulting product is an interactive website-based digital dictionary containing Jombangan vocabulary presented in the form of parikan (traditional Javanese rhymes), meanings, examples of usage, interpretations of Jombangan cultural values, character education values, and literacy development materials.
The research subjects included elementary school teachers, Javanese language experts, instructional media experts, and elementary school students. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and product trials. The results indicate that the digital Jombangan dictionary achieved a very high level of validity based on evaluations from material and media experts. Furthermore, the use of the digital dictionary increased students’ interest in learning regional languages and strengthened Javanese cultural literacy within elementary school environments. The media was also considered practical, engaging, and easy to use in the learning process. Therefore, the development of the digital Jombangan language dictionary can serve as an effective local culture-based learning innovation to support the preservation of regional languages from an early age.
