Abstract

Speech delay is a condition in which a child's speech and language development progresses more slowly than that of peers of the same age. This delay may affect both receptive and expressive language abilities. During early childhood, receptive language plays a fundamental role because it enables children to understand information, follow instructions, and develop effective communication skills. Receptive language develops through exposure to facial expressions, body movements, and vocabulary acquired from the surrounding environment. Therefore, appropriate stimulation is essential to support receptive language development in children with speech delay. One effective form of stimulation is the use of flash cards, as they attract children's attention while facilitating visual vocabulary learning. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of flash card media in improving receptive language acquisition among children with speech delay. The study employed a quantitative experimental method using a single-case experimental design. Three early childhood participants diagnosed with speech delay were involved in the study. Observational data were collected using an A–B–A design based on four aspects of receptive language ability derived from the developmental milestone theory. The findings demonstrated that the implementation of flash card media improved receptive language acquisition across all measured aspects for each participant following the intervention.
