Abstract
Anxiety is a psychological problem commonly experienced by the elderly and has the potential to affect blood pressure through physiological mechanisms such as activation of the sympathetic nervous system. Uncontrolled blood pressure in the elderly can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and a decline in quality of life. This study aims to investigate the relationship between anxiety levels and blood pressure in the elderly at Griya Lansia Khusnul Khatimah in Malang City. The study employs an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consists of all elderly residents at Griya Lansia Khusnul Khatimah, totaling 30 individuals, with samples selected using purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria. The independent variable was anxiety levels measured using the Geriatric Anxiety Scale (GAS), while the dependent variable was blood pressure measured using a sphygmomanometer. Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rho correlation test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that respondents' anxiety levels were distributed in the mild to moderate categories, while blood pressure varied from normal to stage 2 hypertension. Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between anxiety levels and blood pressure in the elderly (p < 0.05). The conclusion of this study is that the higher the anxiety level, the higher the blood pressure in the elderly. This finding emphasizes the importance of psychosocial intervention in blood pressure control efforts in the elderly, especially in social care facilities
