Abstract
Background: Skin problems caused by radicals such as premature aging. Skin damage that occurs due to UV rays and air pollution, radicals can speed up the aging process of the skin. To overcome this, the skin needs antioxidants. Butterfly pea flower extract contains antioxidants from anthocyanins.
Objective: To determine the effect of 5%, 10% and 15% levels of butterfly pea flower extract in liquid bath soap preparations on the effectiveness of antioxidants using the DPPH method.
Methods: This research was conducted experimentally. By measuring the antioxidant content of butterfly pea flower extract and vitamin C (Positive Control). The extract is made into liquid bath soap with levels of 5%, 10% and 15%. Preparations were measured for antioxidants and their effectiveness using the DPPH method.
Results and Conclusions: The results of research varying levels of 5%, 10% and 15% in liquid bath soap preparations have an effect on the effectiveness of antioxidants in vitro. The IC50 value of butterfly pea flower extract (Clitoria ternatea L) was 94.04 ppm, vitamin C was 8.31 ppm. The results of measuring the antioxidant activity of the Caie bath soap preparation obtained % inhibition of formulations I, II, III. Respectively 29.73%, 56.23% and 81.06% show that the higher the level, the higher the antioxidant content.
