Abstract

expressions and the challenges faced by teachers in tenth-grade English classes at SMAN 4 Batam. This study is based on Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) and pragmatic competence theory. Using a qualitative descriptive design, data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation. The findings show that the pocket book improves students’ ability to use compliment expressions and increases engagement. However, challenges include different student comprehension levels and limited time. In conclusion, the pocket book is an effective tool to support students’ communicative competence.
