Abstract

Academic buoyancy is the ability of students to face and overcome daily academic challenges, such as heavy workloads and low grades. This study aims to develop and test the construct validity of an academic buoyancy scale for senior high school students in Indonesia. The instrument was developed by compiling 33 initial items based on a literature review of academic buoyancy and assessing content feasibility through expert judgment to ensure suitability with the cultural context, language, and academic characteristics of high school students in Indonesia. The study involved 261 students from two public high schools in Malang City using cluster random sampling. Construct validity was tested using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) using the maximum likelihood method and Oblimin rotation. The feasibility test results showed that the data was adequate for factor analysis (KMO = 0.944, Bartlett's Test = χ² = 3997; p < 0.001). The factor analysis results produced four factors that represent the construct of academic resilience. The final scale consisted of 21 items with adequate content validity and very high reliability (Cronbach's α = 0.954). The results showed that the developed academic buoyancy scale could be used as a valid and reliable measuring instrument.
