Abstract

This research is motivated by the increasing issue of mental health issues among teenagers and the development of music and video clips as communication media capable of conveying emotional, social, and psychological messages. The music video for the song LosT by Bring Me the Horizon was chosen as the object of research because it displays strong visuals about mental crisis, emotional distress, helplessness, and the search for help. This study aims to analyze the mental health myths constructed in the music video using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. The method used is a qualitative, descriptive, interpretive approach with data collection techniques in the form of documentation studies and observations of visual, musical, and verbal elements in the music video. The analysis was carried out through the stages of denotative meaning, connotation, and myth. The research results show that the LosT music video addresses mental health issues as a psychological crisis characterized by feelings of helplessness, confusion about life, and a desire to numb oneself. This condition is also manifested in frustration with the treatment process, loss of identity, uncontrolled emotional outbursts, and a deep sense of emptiness. At the myth level, this music video constructs the view that individuals with mental disorders do not want to end life. In addition, this work emphasizes rock music as a medium for catharsis, social reflection, and a means of raising awareness of mental health issues.
