Abstract
This study aims to analyze the rhetoric of political news headlines in the Jawa Pos daily newspaper from the perspective of the philosophy of language, positioning language as a tool for persuading readers. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with documentation techniques on 162 political news headlines from the November 2023 to January 2024 editions. Data analysis was conducted through a study of diction, headline structure, and Aristotelian rhetorical strategies (ethos, pathos, logos), and interpreted philosophically using the philosophy of language perspective. The results show that political news headlines in the Jawa Pos daily are dominated by ideological diction, metaphorical elements, and elliptical structures that function as strategies for framing meaning. The rhetorical strategies of ethos and pathos are more prominent than logos, indicating that persuasion in political headlines is built more through the credibility of figures and managing readers' emotions than through rational argumentation. From the perspective of the philosophy of language, these findings confirm that political headlines in the Jawa Pos daily are not neutral, but rather function as linguistic acts that shape political reality, direct public interpretation, and reproduce power relations. This research has implications for a critical understanding of journalistic language practices, particularly in a political context, and emphasizes the importance of media literacy based on the philosophy of language for reading news headlines as constructions of meaning and ideology.
