Abstract

The involvement of women in violent extremism in Indonesia demonstrates that extremism is not solely driven by ideology or economic factors, but rather is related to multidimensional vulnerabilities intertwined with gender structures and unequal power relations. This study aims to analyze Peace Villages in addressing the triggers for women's involvement in violent extremism in Indonesia. This study uses a qualitative approach with literature review and document analysis methods, and is supported by a conceptual framework of human security and the concept of women's empowerment. The results indicate that the driving factors for women's involvement in violent extremism are related to economic insecurity, experiences of violence and personal crises, and limited space for women's participation in social and community structures. Through a human security perspective, the Peace Village Initiative seeks to reduce these vulnerabilities by strengthening women's economic, personal, and community security. Meanwhile, through a women's empowerment approach, Peace Villages encourage increased access to resources, strengthened agency, and expanded women's roles in the community.
