Abstract

The development of digital technology has changed patterns of communication and social participation, including among people in the late productive-age group. In this context, Media Literacy Skills are considered an important factor that may influence Digital Citizenship, both directly and through Media Literacy Effect. This study aims to analyze the influence of Media Literacy Skills on Digital Citizenship through Media Literacy Effect among people in the late productive-age group in Lowokwaru District, Malang City. This research employed a quantitative approach with an explanatory research type and survey as the research basis. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 395 respondents determined using the Slovin formula. Data analysis was conducted using reliability testing, descriptive analysis, Pearson correlation, linear regression, regression assumption tests, hypothesis testing, and mediation analysis using a nonparametric bootstrap method with 5000 simulations. The results indicate that Media Literacy Skills have a positive and significant effect on Digital Citizenship, Media Literacy Skills have a positive and significant effect on Media Literacy Effect, and Media Literacy Effect has a positive and significant effect on Digital Citizenship. The mediation analysis shows that Media Literacy Effect partially mediates the influence of Media Literacy Skills on Digital Citizenship, with an ACME value of 0.45372, an ADE value of 0.53054, and a mediated proportion of 46.09% at a significance level of p < 0.001.
