Abstract

Backgorund : Heart failure is a condition in which the heart is unable to effectively pump blood and oxygen throughout the body. This disorder can be caused by structural or functional heart abnormalities and is often the end stage of various cardiovascular diseases. Common symptoms include shortness of breath and fluid retention. Diuretics are the primary therapy given to heart failure patients to treat symptoms of congestion and fluid retention. Furosemide is one such medication, with the dose adjusted based on symptom improvement or worsening.
Objective : This study aims to describe the pattern of furosemide use in hospitalized patients diagnosed with heart failure at RSUD dr. Mohamad Soewandhie Surabaya, including dose, route, frequency, duration of drug administration, drug combinations, and changes in drug doses.
Method : This study was conducted in an observational and descriptive manner, with retrospective data collection from patient medical records.
Result and Conclusions : The most common single use pattern was Furosemide (5mg/hour) iv in 51 patients (24%), combination 2, namely furosemide (5mg/hour) iv + spironolactone (1x25mg) po in 29 patients (23%), and combination 3, namely furosemide (5mg/hour) iv + Spironolactone (1x25mg) po + HCT (1x25mg) po in 4 patients (36%). The most switch patterns in 69 patients were 4 patterns.
