Abstract

Emerging adulthood is a transitional developmental period characterized by identity exploration, career planning, and various social demands that may potentially lead to psychological distress. Self compassion functions as an internal resource that enables individuals to achieve flourishing. This study aimed to examine the relationship between self compassion and flourishing in emerging adulthood. The research amployeda quantitative approach with a correlational design. The participants consisted of 251 individuals in the emerging adulthood stage aged 18-29 years, who were either university or working individuals. The instruments used were the Self Compassion Scale (SWD) to measure self compassion and The PERMA Profiler to measure flourishing with the help of Jeffrey’s Amazing Statistics program (JASP). Data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment correlation. The results indicated a significant positive relationship between self compassion and flourishing r = 0.339, p < 0.001, suggesting that higher levels of self compassion are associated with higher levels of flourishing in emerging adulthoo d. Additional analysis revealed no significant differences in self compassion or flourishing based on activity status, studying or working. These findings conclude that self compassion contributes to increasing flourishing in emerging adulthood.
