Abstract

Parents with children with special needs are vulnerable to experiencing a decline in quality of life due to various pressures in parenting. This study aims to examine the influence of social support and spirituality on the quality of life in parents with children with special needs. This study uses a quantitative method with a correlational design. The research subjects totaled 175 people who were selected using purposive sampling techniques, with the criteria of living with children, accompanying and caring for children, and children with special needs attending special schools. Measurements were made using the F-SozU K-6 scale for social support, DSES for spirituality, and WHOQoL-BRIEF for quality of life. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression on JASP. The results showed that partially social support (p = 0.010) and spirituality (p <.001) had a significant effect on quality of life, simultaneously the two variables had a significant effect on the value (p <.001). These findings show that the higher the social support and spirituality, the higher the quality of life of parents with children with special needs. This indicates that social support helps ease the burden of parenting emotionally and instrumentally, and spirituality helps parents interpret conditions, accept situations, and manage stress. Therefore, parents feel more prosperous and are able to face parenting challenges better.
