Abstract
This study aims to describe the factors underlying the implementation of holistic education, its implementation and implications in shaping the character of students at the Al-Anwar Modern Islamic Boarding School. This study uses an interpretivism paradigm with a qualitative approach and a case study research type. The informants of this study include asatidz (KH, U1, and U2) and students (S1-S9). The location of this study is at the Al-Anwar Modern Islamic Boarding School in Pacitan. Data collection uses observation, interview and documentation techniques. Data analysis in this study is carried out through four data analysis activities of the interactive model of Miles, Hubarman & Saldana, namely data collection, data condensation by transcribing and coding the findings of the interview results, data presentation by presenting data in the form of narratives or tables, as well as drawing conclusions and verification. Data validity test uses triangulation techniques. The findings or results of this study are; (a) Holistic education at the Al-Anwar Modern Islamic Boarding School in Pacitan is implemented based on external factors, namely the needs of the community and internal factors, namely the readiness of the Islamic boarding school to face the demands of the times by integrating religious education with general knowledge and other supporting aspects; (b) The implementation of holistic education in the Al-Anwar Pacitan modern Islamic boarding school takes place through the management function framework according to George R. Terry, planning, which is not planned explicitly through holistic education documents but implicitly as institutional culture, organizing, which is through the division of roles, implementing (actuating), which includes implementation based on the main tasks or each role, and controlling, which is through evaluation activities. The implementation of holistic education is in accordance with the multi-dimensional perspective integration theory in holistic education according to Ramon Gallegos Nava which emphasizes the spiritual aspect as a focus compared to the emotional, intellectual, social, physical, and aesthetic aspects; (c) Holistic education has implications for the character of students at the Al-Anwar Modern Islamic Boarding School in Pacitan. This is examined through Thomas Lickona's theory of moral formation, which includes moral knowing, which is the growth of religious awareness in students as a basis for moral behavior; moral feeling, which is the growth of empathy and social concern; and moral action, which is manifested in moral values in concrete actions such as mutual cooperation, leadership, and deliberation.
